This is one of the best known of the Chamaedorea palms and is referred to as the Bamboo Palm because of the bamboo like stems. Clumping with basal suckers, height reached can be 3 metres or 10 feet. The stems always appear the most dominant form to the eye as the majority of leaves are carried higher up the stem when mature. A renowned indoor palm, it is often found as plantings in shopping malls and commercial gardens as well as in the home garden. The Bamboo Palm produces round black seeds when ripe and germinate in approximately 3 months.

The Bamboo Palm will not invade gardens as some of the real Bamboo species will but will slowly thicken up via the growth of basal suckers and provide a non intrusive screen.
